HOW TO USE CARBON’CLAP?
LOG IN TO CARBON'CLAP
Carbon'Clap is an online platform that runs on any type of device or web browser.
1. CREATE AN ACCOUNT
Creating an account is free of charge.
Once your account is created, you will have access to your user dashboard where you will have an overview of the carbon emissions of all your projects, find out which department or activity has the highest impact and compare projects with each other.
2. CREATE AND SET UP A PROJECT
To create a project, simply click on the ‘Project space’ tab, then click on ‘New Project’. All your projects are listed on this ‘Project space’ page.
Projects can also be compared with each other, by checking them off in the projects list, and then clicking on ‘Compare’. The user can compare multiple projects data with comparison graphs.
When creating a new project, you will be displayed the ‘Project Settings’ page. Fill in here the main information of your production. Budget and project duration data are used for statistical purposes only. The project form can be customized by checking the boxes of the categories that are relevant to your project.
3. ENTER YOUR DATA
The form follows the production budget logic with 8 categories:
- Production
- Filming locations
- Set Design
- Hair Makeup Costume
- Transport
- Production Logistics
- Technical Equipment
- Post-production
The data you need to enter can be physical (surface area, human working time, kilowatt-hour, kilogram, distance, etc.) or financial. If a field does not seem clear enough, a help menu can be opened by clicking on the question mark on top right of the page. Everything that is included in your production budget needs to be taken into account in your carbon footprint calculation, except artistic costs and wages.
Click ‘Save’ before moving on to the next tab. .
To make the data collection easier you can invite other users to your Carbon’Clap project. Collaborators can be invited through the ‘Manage collaboration’ button. Invited users will get an email invitation to join the project. If your collaborator already has an active account, the project will be listed in the ‘Project space’. If your collaborator does not have an active account, it will be necessary to register before accessing the project. When you add users they get access to the data collection form, can add data and can see the production’s carbon calculation report.
4. MEASURE THE CARBON FOOTPRINT OF YOUR PROJECT
Once you have entered data in the data collection form, you can access the carbon footprint of the project by clicking on the 'Report' button. The report page provides an overview of a project’s carbon emissions and is updated in real time everytime you save your data. Breakdowns of emissions are provided in specific graphs (per department, per production phase and per emission categories). This data will help identify the level of emissions for strategic departments. Actions that may be undertaken to reduce emission are also provided through a list of sustainable best practices documents.
5. FINALIZE YOUR PROJECT
Once all the data for a project has been submitted, finalize the project to confirm the final carbon calculation. Once the project is finalized, it will no longer be possible to make further adjustments. The project will appear in the user dashboard and statistics will be displayed in the dashboard.
Important note: all data must be entered to obtain the most reliable carbon footprint. Estimates may be used, but real figures will always be more accurate.
